The Chemical Test is used to identify individual elements of metals that have amalgamated. This type of testing is used for various applications including as a quality control tool in foundries and steel mills, Product sampling, Welding purposes, identifying material for part replacement or failure investigation and reverse engineering. Holiday Testing

Noble NDT can conduct Holiday testing (also known as Continuity Testing) on protective coatings to detect unacceptable discontinuities such as pinholes and voids. This testing is for non visible discontinuities in coatings. The test is carried out by checking an electric circuit to see if current flows to complete the circuit. In areas where there is not enough coating to resist the electrical charge voids and holes are detected. In other words, if the electrical charge is detected, then there are discontinuities. This testing is applied on tank interiors, chemical storage vessels and buried structures. The purpose is to ensure that the coating can withstand such environments.

Ferrite Measurement

The amount of Ferrite in stainless steel weld metals can have an influence on a wide range of properties including corrosion resistance, toughness, long term high temperature stability, resistance to hot cracking etc. It is therefore essential for some applications that the ferrite level is controlled within specified limits and that methods are available for checking that specified levels have been achieved. If the ferrite content is too low, then the welded material is susceptible to hot cracking, if the ferrite content is too high, the toughness as well as the corrosion resistance of the steel is then reduced.
